Faith over Fear
Do Not be Afraid
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone, there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
"Fear does not stop death. It stops life."
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure… As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."
“Do not be afraid” is one of the most repeated phrases in the Bible. Coincidentally, some estimate that it is repeated in some variation around 365 times—one for each day of the year.
We truly have nothing to fear.
Our brains are wired to fear—fear of a predator, fear of something that will harm us physically. But the world has changed drastically since this wiring took place, and it has been proven we have the ability to rewire.
Today, we are comfortable, we are safe, we live in abundance. We have access to every piece of information and data point we could ever want. We could easily consume the yearly sugar intake of a 1300s peasant in one sitting. We have Times Square, an AMC theater, and any concert ever in our pocket, accessible at any time. Many are chronically indoors and in a seated position. There is very little that can physically harm us in our day-to-day lives.
But fear is creative. In this physical safety and comfort we have built for ourselves, it has made itself known in the emotional, social, and psychological realms:
Fear of not being enough
Fear of being rejected
Fear of being canceled or ostracized
Fear of being vulnerable and open
Fear of failure
Fear of being ourselves fully and entirely
Fear of depth and emotion
Identifying fear is key. Recognize the symptoms. Recognize how your body feels.
Once you recognize fear, you will realize that not only is fear entirely conquerable, but it is also an indicator. That which you fear is often the best direction to go.
The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.
Go towards your fear, and you will disarm it. You will feel yourself pulling off its mask like in Scooby-Doo, only to see there was nothing to fear the whole time.
Faith is the antidote to fear.
Faith in yourself
Faith in your preparation
Faith in God
Faith in universal laws
Faith that everything always works out
Faith that you are growing
Faith that you will come out the other side stronger
Recognize what you fear. Go directly towards it, and conquer it with the faith that there is truly nothing to fear.
Always choose faith over fear.
