One Mother's Wisdom
Thanks, Mom
Welcome, friends — If you are reading this, I want to express my sincere appreciation for your support. You are the early adopters, the first members of an audience that will undoubtedly expand. I am truly excited about this, and it would mean a great deal to me if you share this link with your friends and encourage them to subscribe: https://resonance.beehiiv.com/subscribe
Now onto this week’s article:
This year, for Mother’s Day, I decided to gift my mother a Storyworth subscription and book.
Storyworth is a service that sends a weekly question via email to the person of your choice for an entire year. The recipient can easily respond to the email with their answers, and at the end of the year, all the responses are compiled into a book and shipped to you.
These thought-provoking questions effectively bring out cherished memories from loved ones, creating a keepsake filled with their life stories and family history.
Here are some examples of the questions my mom received and wrote about, which will be preserved in her book for years to come:
What was your mom like during your childhood?
Which road trips did you take as a child?
What was your dad like when you were growing up?
What were your favorite toys during your childhood?
How would you describe your grandparents?
What was your first significant journey?
Remember: Each and everyone of us has a unique and captivating story that we are writing each day. What do you want the next chapters of your book to be about?
The question my mom received this week was: "What would you consider your motto?"
Upon reading her answer, I instantly knew that this was something I wanted to share with all of you this week. Thank you, Mom.
Enjoy:
I have many “mottos” that I have thought about and referred to when needed. I may hear a phrase in a song or read a passage and find it is something I want to write down to refer to at another time. This will be a good chance to revisit some of them and share a few recent ones
“Someday you will see that it wasn’t falling apart, it was falling into place.”
“How to Make Life More Positive”:
smile more
be yourself
be optimistic
don’t complain
throw away your clutter
make a change/difference
“unfollow” negative people
show more gratitude
“Swim like a fish, ride like the wind, run like it is downhill.”
“Improve Listening Skills:
talk less;
do not interrupt;
maintain direct eye contact;
put your phone down;
listen with your eyes,
look for the unsaid;
be interested;
if you are waiting for a pause to speak, then you’re not actually listening.”
“If you don’t like something, change it, if you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.” -Mary Engelbreit
“All the magic happens outside of the comfort zone.”
“At least for a moment, put the canoe paddles down, float and look around.”
“No matter how much we may love the melody of a by gone day or imagine the song of a future one, we must dance within the music of today, or we will always be out of step.”
“Conditions are always changing, and real peace lies in the ability to adapt to these changes”- Mingyur Rinpoche
“It’s not about what the day brings, it is about what you bring to the day.”
“not all storms come to disrupt your life, some come to clear your path.”
“protect your time and energy for what you truly love, instead of settling for what is easy and comfortable.”
“whatever tomorrow brings I’ll be there with open arms and open eyes.”
“move forward each day from this point on cultivating a tranquil, beautiful, internal world. Take time to learn to find joy in simply existing. Love everything about the exact moment and chapter you are in right now. "
Are you listening?
It’s a beautiful day. Have an excellent week.
